Comparison Between EWP Boom Lift and AWP


AWP: The term AWP is Aerial Work Platform, which is also known as a man lift. It is a machine used to access for people or equipment too hard to reach areas that are too high to reach.



Some Types of lifts are called 
  1. Scissor Lifts
  2. Cherry Pickers 
  3. Boom Lifts 
  4. Articulating Lifts, etc.
They are mainly used for many purposes like maintenance and construction work or by firefighters for emergency access. They come with weight restrictions and the reach of the individual machines varies from 10 feet to over 200ft.
It is of two types

  1. Boom Lift
  2. Scissor Lift It has two modes of movement 
a.             Self-Propelled AWP
b.            Vehicle Mounted AWP

EWPBoom Lift: The term EWP is Elevated Work Platforms, which is mainly used to operate over 11m. There are two distinct types of access platforms, usually called scissor lifts and boom lifts (or sometimes cherry pickers). The difference between the two is that a scissor lift can usually only move vertically, whereas a boom lift has an outreach, to work above areas not accessible from directly below. 

Types of EWPs
  1. Elevating rolling work platforms: It moves either up or down and provides extra height to the operator.
  2. Vertical Mast Lifts: It is the smallest of all types. It is used for indoor purposes.
  3. Cherry Pickers: It is also known as boom lifts or knuckle booms this is mainly used by fruit pickers and carry as much as 200kgs weight. 

MEWP: Mobile Elevated Work Platform provides temporary access to height and can be moved from one place to another. It includes:

  1. Scissor Lifts
  2. Articulating Boom Lift
  3. Telehandlers 
All of these come in varying heights and weight with respect to the area of operation.

  2. Thanks anyways for providing a little comparison about these two. I think that having good training from a school like Executive Training where I enrolled for elevated work platforms puts me on an advantage.
